acrylic study GRAPHIC
These objects are the result of an experiment with acrylic resin. Acrylic is a two-component material consisiting of a mineral powder and a water-based acrylic resin. These bond in a strong material. The material can be moulded. We experimented with building materials such as pvc pipe and corrugated plastic to make the moulds. Afterwards the acrilyc can easily be processed: sanding, sawing and sealing. By using pigments, the liquid acrylic can be coloured. This material offers us a lot of possibilities.
light fixture COMMON
This design starts from the universal form of a beam. By trial-and-error and by leaving all unnecessary elements behind, we try to come to its essence: a slim beam reduced with the cilindrical volume of a lamp. The light fixture is made out of one piece of solid oak. An opening for the led tube light is milled out of the beam. The opening makes sure that the light shines down as well as up.
side table REVEAL
The table top is made out af acrylic resin. Acrylic is a two-component material consisiting of a mineral powder and a water-based acrylic resin. These bond in a strong material. The material can be moulded and processed. By using pigments, the liquid acrylic can be coloured. Working with acrylic gives us endless flexibility in colour and form and is easy to adapt. By combining different colours and shapes we obtain our own designed terrazo-look.
wall lamp L13
Three bended steel tubes form a whole. Each tube is provided with LED strips. For us, it was very important that each tube can be turned around as each tube has its own function: to lit up the ceiling, to lit up the wall and to provide reading light. Also each tube lamp can be switched on and off separately. Led light always comes with a LED transformer. It was a challenge to give it a place without being disruptive. Therefore we designed the little black box. It now serves as a suspension system, as a disposal for the transformer and as a carrier of the light switches and tubes.
bookcase CUBE
The use of a thin steel profile (1cmx1cm) gives this bookcase a slim appearance. The frame is build up with cubes which makes it possible to turn the frame around. Even with the shelves the bookcase had to look very sober and straight. The steel profile and the shelf have the same thickness. The shelf had to fit perfectly in the framework. For that reason we developed a costum-made steel clip. Furthermore, these clips make it possible to shift the shleves to any cube in the framework. It's through flexibility that CUBE can be adapted to any needs.
